But Not Who

shadow dancingLooking around seeing nothing
or rather little
rankingly rascally clouds
deft diving dragonflies
chickadee goldfinch and humming hummingbird
but not you, not you

Feeling around feeling nothing
or rather little
senile seminal sea breezes
elephantine elf ermine
shepherds, chihuahuas and Sephardic shelties
but not you, not you

Turning around there is nothing
or rather little
tall tanning treetops
fetchingly fast feathers
flora fauna and flowering flowers
but not you, not you

But of course waiting for nothing
forever little
grinding guilty grand grooves
tapping toes tautly
seeing softly spilling sunrise
but not you, not you

But Not Who

Deep Blue

Blue RoseHaving fallen into blue before
In dreams on good days
On bad days we have as
Gently as possible slid on

Either way the blue was blameless
Our feelings comfortable, happy
To be within enthralled in
The easy placidness of it

	And somehow, somewhere you
	want to scream, screech even
	chalk across slate
	soul across existence

Two Indigo Buntings flew
Over nearby hills, along ridges
Under a copper red sky
Settling to form two blue pools

Flying with them you grasp
The unknown where exactly
Flying through intense clouds
Where even rainstorms are good

	you are troubling, boiling
	stumbling, almost falling even
	sliding across water
	breathing across living

But it was in the landing
We mostly treasured
Asking was it worthy for you
Or was it merely the

	Seeping into desultory day

Only one love I have

	Her Him

and I say my heart is breakin'
and I see I am forsaken
for I know my love's been taken
and I've no place to go
there's only one love I have for you
it's from the inside of my soul
a love I've been growing since before
since before I ever knew I could love
where you are is my intention
cause your love I'll not mention
to anyone with dissension
so I'll just have to go
there's only one love I have for you
it's from the inside of my soul
a love I've been growing since before
since before I ever knew I could love
cause it's there you'll be forever
and from your love my heart will sever
like a broken weight with lever
please don't make me go
there's only one love I have for you
it's from the inside of my soul
a love I've been growing since before
since before I ever knew I could love
I will love you till the ending
and I'll never be pretending
cause your love you will be sending
to wherever I should go
there's only one love I have for you
it's from the inside of my soul
a love I've been growing since before
since before I ever knew I could love
please say it, you love me
please say it, you breath me
in your heart where I will be
and I'll never have to go
there's only one love I have for you
it's from the inside of my soul
a love I've been growing since before
since before I ever knew I could love
and I say my heart's not breakin'
cause you are my intention
I will love you till the ending
and I'll always love you too

It's true, I'll always love you.
Only one love I have

Wilting in the Studio Like a Rose

Singing every sad song I knewWilting red rose
playing every broken hearted tune
crying to the music
dying in the spaces
knowing you’re not knowing
is saying more than I could

You’re laughing somewhere
making smiles and stories
telling beginnings and tales
of endless travels without
ever having a microphone

it’s not needed you know
like a ticket if you hide
until the conductor passes
still it would be good to have
if only to hold onto

there are tears on the transmitter
leaving small salt circles
almost heart shaped, listless
while I wait for the “No”
that is wilting like a rose

Wilting in the Studio Like a Rose

This Poem

Was I twelve when I wrote this, or maybe thirteen? A few years ago I discovered a book I’d gotten as a gift when I was twelve. This poem was one of six written on ruled paper that were carefully folded and stored in the book.

This Poemchild writing

Heading out the door
Looking for some more
Going to the store

I might have to sing
In a crazy sort of swing
To a tune the band won’t play

A sidewalk crack
Gave a heart attack
In various shades of black

This poem rhymes
Too many times
And has nothing much to say

Etude # 3

Holding without foolish fearswarbler
Without semblance of panic
The warbler restrains itself
Recalling the song and chorus

Even in the face of the hawk
Circling above searching
Perhaps the warbler’s calling
Perhaps not giving a damn

Her tiny gloom eyes glisten
With every delicate note
A tune culled from heaven
Rewritten to bird life memory

She once told me of the ocean
In a way that whispered of love
Not for me but for some other
Holding her heart, pulling

The knowing left me queasy
Feeling the screeching of a gull
Even as I woke to a pretty song
Leaving me far away from myself
