Deep Blue

Blue RoseHaving fallen into blue before
In dreams on good days
On bad days we have as
Gently as possible slid on

Either way the blue was blameless
Our feelings comfortable, happy
To be within enthralled in
The easy placidness of it

	And somehow, somewhere you
	want to scream, screech even
	chalk across slate
	soul across existence

Two Indigo Buntings flew
Over nearby hills, along ridges
Under a copper red sky
Settling to form two blue pools
Flying with them you grasp
The unknown where exactly
Flying through intense clouds
Where even rainstorms are good

	you are troubling, boiling
	stumbling, almost falling even
	sliding across water
	breathing across living
But it was in the landing
We mostly treasured
Asking was it worthy for you
Or was it merely the

	Seeping into desultory day

The Dragonfly Darts Above

DragonflyThe dragonfly darts above
As the rippling stream flows
Though the waters are cool
Somehow they warm
Washing away the dirt and filth
Replacing blood and plasma
With itself
Replacing all it touches
With obstinate joy
Questionable joy
For it is touched with a
Shivering sensible fear
That the stream will crash it
Against a chunk of rock
So there is struggle
Against what seems good
Against what seems
Does the dragonfly know
It is free, yet it is trapped
Attached to the water
Just as a bird’s wing feather
Free from the bird
But floating on air
Or floating on the water
Feeling the push and pull
Thinking it is ecstasy
Where it is control
And it is still not free
Being taken rather than going

The dragonfly offers no rescue
Nor does the shore
Nor do the rocks
Offering their constant
Threat of painful freedom
To save from this terrible delight

I do not want to be
A dragonfly
I do not want to be
A feather
I do not want to be
A stream
But I am

With water below it is
Above, watching waiting?
a bird’s wing feather
riding the swells
feeling the push and pull
knowing this ecstasy cannot
long last.

Will the dragonfly rescue me
Save me from this terrible delight
will the shore come close
That I might scrabble hold
Then lie on the beach

It is the dragonfly I am watching
As I break free not with violence
But with ragged tenderness
Somehow the stream still within

Dance to the Mountains

Dance on the mountainsmountains
Sing to the stones
Reach for the heavens
This is your home

Cry like an eagle
screech like a hawk
whispering nightingale
sing with a lark

your soul will excite you
your heart keeps the beat
and then forever new
with spirit you’ll speak

this is your morning
the heart of your day
forever in dawning
a fragrant bouquet

kick up dust devils
cavort in their midst
forever circles
where children kissed

never stopping breathing
your heart does the rest
the soul you’ll unsheathe
completing the quest

your feet to the sky
your voice to the trees
no need to ask why
you’ll do as you please

then the sun setting
one bird gently peeps
your last pirouettes
your world gently sleeps
