Begging for a Hug

a leaf nudges the groundlone leaf on pavement
like a dog needing contact
brown, curled, slightly broken
touching the grass
and bare dirt
and pavement
it struggles
begging for a hug
until if finds a street
where the first few cars
toss it aside
moving it into a new place
like something disgusting
and again grasps wildly
till finding another car
it extends for contact
but is flattened
like a hammer on a nail
and that ends its need
to be touched
